For 15 years Archway Academy has provided students who are in recovery from substance abuse a nurturing environment where they can excel in a sober environment in pursuit of their high diploma.  Statistics tell that an adolescent exiting a recovery program and reentering his/her familiar school has an 80% chance of relapse of drug and/or alcohol use within 90 days.  Archway offers young people in recovery, not only the education they need to be successful in life, but the community that allows them to stay sober and flourish. The majority of Archway’s graduates go on to college and many alumni continue to mentor younger Archway students. Spindletop funding to the Archway Academy Scholarship Program allows students to attend the school who may not have had the financial means to do so. Students attending Archway are required to have graduated from a treatment program such as Palmer Drug Abuse Program, resulting in continued support from their peers.

Palmer Drug Abuse Program, which holds an after-school program at the Archway School campus is a support program focused on recovery through acceptance, love, and kindness. Over the past 45 years, PDAP has gone from its inaugural meeting of six teenagers to positively affecting over 1 million youth in Greater Houston and nationally. The Mission of the Palmer Drug Abuse Program is to be the most effective prevention and recovery program helping young people and families avoid or recover from the devastating effects of drug and alcohol abuse. This free and long-term recovery program is of the highest quality and readily accessible to Houston area youth and their families.

Since its inception in 1997, the Crime Stoppers’ Safe School Institute has evolved into a free, year-round program that has educated more than 1 million students in 60+ school districts in the Greater Houston area and throughout Texas. The function of the Safe School Institute is to create a one-stop center for all aspects of school safety. The Institute creates a proactive dialogue with students, parents, school staff and law enforcement and provides students with a safe, anonymous way to report crime and potential dangers on campus.

In 2019, with the assistance of funding from the OTC 50^th Anniversary Dinner, Spindletop has made a multi-year pledge to underwrite the Safe School Institute Webinar Series. This series will provide an overview of the Institute as well as necessary tools and training needed to launch and grow individual Safe School Programs – not only in Houston but across Texas and eventually across the US. Participants will be able to watch educational topics specific to cyber safety and bullying, mental health, human trafficking, teen dating safety, substance abuse, animal safety and more. The webinar platform will allow for both engaging live presentations that will incorporate interaction between presenters and participants, as well as static presentations that are pre-recorded for participants to view at any time.

With the motto of “Kids Come First,” Houston Achievement Place (HAP) provides safe, loving, skilled parental care in therapeutic homes to children ages 2 to 17, who have been victims of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse and neglect. HAP understands the importance of children building the skills and relationships needed to succeed in school, at home and in the community. Spindletop has proudly supported HAP’s Project CLASS over the years, which teaches core building block social skills to children ages 3-5 & 6-12. On a daily basis, Project CLASS serves 32,000 children, 4,000 teachers, 2,000 parents and 60+ elementary schools and early childhood centers.

Project CLASS is currently launching a new Animated Children’s Books Digital Initiative. These are children’s books that focus on core-foundation social skills development for children 3 to 8 years old. Michael Gets Mad is the first book offering and focuses on anger awareness and calming down to make good choices. Spindletop has underwritten the printing of this book as well as the animation and Parent & Educator Guide. The next two books are underway and will focus on how to pay attention, follow instructions, accept no, accept feedback, and use eye contact.

In 2018, Spindletop made a two-year pledge of $100,000 to Hurricane Harvey relief support for the YMCA of Greater Houston. In appreciation of this gift, the Houston Texans YMCA is home to the Spindletop Charities Child Watch, a secure area for young children. The 2019 site visit included a tour of this unique NFL-branded YMCA, and attendees participated in the ribbon cutting for the new Spindeltop Charities Child Watch.
