Small Steps Nurturing Center’s mission is to provide an exemplary early childhood program to instill and foster the social, emotional, physical, intellectual and spiritual growth of economically at-risk children and their families. Small Steps Nurturing Center operates two preschools for children, ages two through six, for students living in the First, Second, Fourth, and Fifth Wards of Houston, Texas. Small Steps invests in the lives of these children through intervening early and meeting their needs for setting them on a trajectory filled with greater opportunities for success. Spindletop began supporting Small Steps in 1998 and has provided classroom supplies, the Jensen campus playground equipment, a transportation van, and most recently, the funding of the Spindletop Student Assessment and Therapy Room.
