In September, the Spindletop Army came together for our annual holiday preparations with the Brookwood citizens. Volunteers had the opportunity to choose between three activities: poinsettia poinsettia maintenance, greenhouse setup, or crafts. Some volunteers spent time in the Craft Center, assisting with glazing holiday platters and painting festive décor. Others helped map out a new greenhouse to grow other plants. The majority of volunteers joined the horticulture team in the Spindletop Greenhouse for their annual planting of poinsettias, which aids in the production of more than 50,000 holiday plants. Their efforts, including adding rings around the plants, were crucial in ensuring the poinsettias’ growth and stability for the holiday season.

These beautiful plants will be sold throughout the Houston area, with proceeds directly supporting programs that benefit the Brookwood citizens. The poinsettias also take center stage at the Spindletop Holiday Ball, where a stunning tree made entirely of these festive plants has become a signature highlight of the event.
