Since 1998, YES Prep Public Schools has continued to expand what is possible in public education. Serving thousands of college-bound students across the Houston area, YES Prep provides a high-quality educational experience built around academic achievement, high expectations, and strong support systems. Through its commitment to preparing students for success in college and beyond, YES Prep continues to create opportunities for students to reach their full potential.

In January, YES Prep high school freshmen brought their creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills to DesignQuest, an engaging design-thinking challenge hosted at the Spindletop Center. As part of YES Prep’s annual IGNITE Career Week, the event began with a career panel featuring energy industry professionals who shared their experiences and advice with students. Following the panel, students worked in small groups alongside fellow YES Prep students and Spindletop volunteers, who served as mentors and advisors throughout the challenge.

Each team was tasked with developing an innovative solution to a real-world problem dealing with sustainability and reducing waste to better the environment. Students brainstormed ideas, refined their concepts, and created visual campaigns to communicate their solutions before presenting their final projects to their peers and a panel of judges. The event concluded with the recognition of the first-, second-, and third-place teams, celebrating the students’ creativity, collaboration, and innovative thinking.
