The Periwinkle Foundation provides a community of healing for children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses through emotionally-healing camps, arts projects, and survivor programs. Periwinkle helps families beginning at diagnosis all the way through treatment and remission. Each Summer, Periwinkle hosts a week-long Day Camp for children, ages 7-12, who are currently being treated or previously treated at Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Center. Each camper is welcome to bring one sibling within the same age range along with them to camp.
Throughout their 41-year history, The Periwinkle Foundation has been committed to bringing joy to the children they serve, and the Spindletop STEM Day is just one cog in the wheel of fun these young patients enjoy. To kick off our Summer of STEM series, Spindletop volunteers facilitated a STEM Fair for 40 Periwinkle Day Camp participants. Campers participated in interactive science experiments, including elephant toothpaste, Lego coding, and the ice cube insulation challenge. Our volunteers’ passion and dedication to service shined brightly as they empowered the young campers to engage in STEM projects.
