Over the past year, Spindletop has proudly invested in the next generation of STEM leaders through scholarships. As part of our commitment to supporting young women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, our team members Lia Vallone and Ashley Werner attended the 2024 BAFTX Awards Ceremony to present the Women in STEM Scholarships to four exceptional recipients: Reagan Crow, Madyson Tate, Dellina Kiflu, and Emily Vaughn.

Reagan Crow

University of Texas at Dallas, Majoring in Biology (Pre-Med)

“As a third-time BAFTX Women in STEM Award recipient, it is truly remarkable to reflect on the opportunities and experiences I’ve had over the past two years that would not have been possible without the generous support of BAFTX and Spindletop. [My words] cannot contain my gratitude for these organizations or their transformative impact on my personal and professional development. As I prepare for my summer internship and junior year, I will carry with me appreciation and admiration for your kindness, thank you!”

Madyson Tate

University of Texas at Tyler, Majoring in Civil Engineering

“I am a Civil Engineering major, currently in my junior year. This semester, I am taking my core engineering classes, which include fluids, codes and specifications, mechanics of materials, construction estimating, and probability and statistics. To prepare me for this semester, I did a geotechnical engineering internship over the summer at Braun Intertec. This gave me the necessary background information and experience in my field needed for my classes. Furthermore, my internship gave me necessary career opportunities, and I will be back the following summer to learn, grow, and pursue engineering.”

Dellina Kiflu

University of Houston, Majoring in Biology

“My name is Dellina Kiflu, and I am currently a freshman at University of Houston. I am majoring in Biology with the goal of pursuing optometry school.”

Emily Vaughn

Sam Houston State University, Majoring in Nursing

“I am excited to pursue my nursing career and further my education while also being a first-generation student. I have wanted to be a nurse for as long as I can remember. I want to be that person who helps protect, heal, and support others. I will give back to the community by getting a job right after school and hopefully eventually opening a clinic of my own.”
