Since 2022, Spindletop has been a proud partner of BEAR…Be A Resource, providing integral funding for one of its newest programs, Heart Gallery of Greater Houston. BEAR is a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming the lives of at-risk and CPS-involved children, along with their caretakers, in the greater Houston area.
The Heart Gallery is a powerful, traveling photographic exhibit designed to help children in foster care find forever families. In Harris County, nearly 1,000 children are waiting for a family and a place to call home. Historically, these children have had only a 1% chance of being adopted before aging out of the system, but with the Heart Gallery program, that number rises to over 60% – and continues to grow.
Collectively over the past two years, Spindletop has awarded BEAR with $66,000 to fund their Heart Gallery Festivals, where the children featured have the opportunity to meet and match with potential parents in a casual setting filled with fun activities for all to enjoy. The first-ever Heart Gallery Festival, underwritten by Spindletop, took place in 2023, giving these very special children a pathway to find their forever homes.
On March 20, 2024, Spindletop was recognized as a BEAR Champion at The Heart Gallery Expansion Reception, alongside two other recipients and in the presence of special guest, First Lady of Texas Cecilia Abbott. The recognition celebrated the dedication and support each honoree has shown to help establish the program and enable BEAR’s continued growth.
This program changes lives, especially those in foster care who are often overlooked, and Spindletop is honored to play a role in its success.
