Youth Development Center

Dedicated to its mission to inspire, equip and guide urban youth to live, Youth Development Center (YDC) provides a free of charge, after-school academic program for at-risk students in grades 1 through 6. Monday through Thursday during the academic year, YDC provides educational enrichment, including: results-oriented academic development with classrooms supervised by certified teachers; leadership training and character development based on Christian values; nutritious meals; transportation from selected campuses to YDC and home at the end of the day; field trip opportunities during the school year; and a summer enrichment program.

In July 2019, YDC built a new facility that will serve a much larger community of children in Houston’s Greater Fifth Ward as well as expand their reach to help children in grades 1 to 8. Through its 13-year partnership with YDC, Spindletop has supported their unwavering commitment to the children they serve. Most recently, Spindletop, along with the Gaither family, pledged a multi-year gift to fund the Library and Playground. At the 2019 Site Visit, Spindletop Board members, Emerging Leaders and staff as well as member of the Gaither family were present for the official ribbon cutting of The Spindletop Library in memory of Orville and Margaret Gaither.
