Spindletop was founded with an invitational golf tournament in 1966, and it continues to be the world’s largest oil industry charitable golf tournament. Nearly 300 oil and gas executives gather annually to raise funds for Houston-area youth charities.

Under the direction of the Spindletop Board of Directors and the Spindletop Tournament Committee, the two-day Spindletop tournament has traditionally garnered support from energy industry executives from both the service and operating sectors. The pairing of a vendor/customer duo makes this tournament unique, with the many networking opportunities a bonus to the overall enjoyment of the event.

Spindletop “Charities on the Green” Game

During the two-day tournament, selected Spindletop supported youth charities are invited to participate in the Spindletop “Charities on the Green Game” located at each Par 3. The charity representatives greet each foursome with a description of its organization’s mission, allowing the participants to further understand how their donations to Spindletop are making a difference in the lives of at-risk children.

Each golfer is given the opportunity to raise additional funds for the charity just by landing his/her tee-shot on the green. Despite the rain delay and eventual cancellation on the first day of play, Spindletop
donated more than $70,000 during the 2019 tournament.
